Fitzsimmons Set for Super2 Debut with Masterton Motorsports
SYDNEY – The cards have been dealt. Hamish Fitzsimmons will officially join the 2026 Dunlop Super2 Series grid, lining up for his rookie campaign with Masterton Motorsports.
The deal follows a standout performance during a test day on February 6 at Sydney Motorsport Park. Fitzsimmons piloted the Masterton-run, ex-Tickford Ford Mustang under the guidance of renowned engineer Adam DeBorre. Impressed by the pace and feedback, Team Principal James Masterton moved quickly to assemble a competitive Super2 package just in time for this weekend’s season opener.
“We hadn't seriously looked at Super2 for 2026 unless we could have a real crack at it,” Fitzsimmons said. “But after seeing the competitive spec car James put together, and with Adam DeBorre in our corner, we jumped at the chance.”
The Great Transition: Porsche vs. Supercar
The leap from the Porsche Carrera Cup (911 GT3 Cup) to a Gen2 Supercar is one of the steepest climbs in Australian motorsport. The mechanical differences are vast:
| Feature | Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) | Gen2 Ford Mustang Supercar |
| Engine | Rear-mounted Flat 6 | Front-mounted V8 |
|---|---|---|
| Drive Side | Left-Hand Drive | Right-Hand Drive |
| Shifting | Paddle Shift | Sequential Floor Shift |
| Aero/Feel | Mechanical Grip Bias | High Aerodynamic Downforce |
“I was surprised by the amount of aero the Super2 car has compared to the 992,” Fitzsimmons noted. “Even in the few laps we managed, the car gave me great feel straight out of the gate. It was fantastic working with Adam, and I’m looking forward to the partnership with James this year. I’m humbled by the opportunity and ready to race.”
Gratitude and Green Lights Fitzsimmons also took a moment to acknowledge the team behind the scenes. “A special shout out to Paul Ceprnich for his mentorship, and to my partners who continue to support me, it matters a lot.” The 2026 Dunlop Super2 Series kicks off at Sydney Motorsport Park from February 20-22.
